The Course Development Process involves numerous meetings with the faculty member(s), instructional design director, instructional designers and media staff. Sample course development schedule attached to provide a full picture of the process.
The instructional design director will discuss with the faculty the value of videos in an online course and provide samples/ideas prior to the media department involvement. Approximately 3-6 weeks into the project the group will meet for a creative meeting. Prior to this meeting the designer will discuss the project with the creative person.
Prior to starting a project with a professor or consultant, it is the responsibility of ensure that a video will meet the objectives of the course and the goals of the faculty member. Creating a video is time consuming and expensive and is not always the most effective form of communication. This is why the process is part of a team effort with the videographers, faculty and instructional designers. We collaborate in order to assist in the alignment of that process. Feel free to voice an opinion if you have something to contribute, being aware that the faculty has a right of refusal or endorsement.
If you genuinely feel something will be detrimental in some way to the functioning of the project (and this does and can happen), please discuss this privately with the Instructional Designers only.
